Blurring The Lines

Blurring the Lines is an exhibition that explores my relationship between art and design. As a contemporary printmaker, I specialise in multi-layered, hand-painted etchings. Based on those original etchings I take sections or parts of my work and redesign them to create digital artworks, designs and patterns for textiles, pushing the boundaries of traditional printmaking. Exploring modern techniques has allowed me to work within the 3-dimensional realm making possibilities endless, including fabric printing, laser printing, sublimation and 3D printing.

This exhibition explores themes inspired by my connection to place and our new home in North Brisbane. Connections to place and home have been overarching themes in my work for the last decade, from my Tasmanian/Polish roots, to Melbourne, to exploring artist residencies in India, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Italy and New Zealand. However, as opposed to my previous work of floating figures and the unknown, there is a sense of stability in this work, a grounded-ness, as I have found a stillness and beauty in the mundane; hence the vessels and still life aesthetic. Memories from my travels continue to echo throughout my work within the hand-painted elements, repetition, layering and patterns. Working beyond the utilitarian design, my highly curated wearable pieces and homewares aim to redefine a new era of printmaking, continuing to respect the traditional craft, whilst embracing technology and contemporary processes.
