New Year, New Goals

I think as an artist their is always the burden of being a failure. It is inescapeable. I feel this frequently and I just want to pack my bags and run away! Especially the pressures of social media make it difficult, if not impossible to switch off. But it's a new year, and a new me, so its now about making positive changes. Here is my 2020 work ethic:

Work smarter, not harder

I know what you are probably thinking.... 'I've heard that one before' or 'Kate's gone nuts'. Probably both are correct. But the point is that we need to hear these sayings and phrases constantly to do anything about it. To make a change. For example, I recently started reading that ridiculous book which is considered the top '10' - The Subtle Art of not giving a F$#&. At first I was like, 'I am never going to read that self help crap EVER!' But now that it lays comfortably in my lap with a cup of tea in hand, my mind thinks otherwise. The one sentence that has completely stuck with me is as follows:

I believe that today we're facing a psychological epidemic, one in which people no longer realise it's ok for things to suck sometimes

I resonate with this so much and it is such truth. Currently in our lives we are see a growing increase in depression and anxiety, our society is struggling with the power of technology and we don't know how to cope. I am so grateful that I don't have depression, but I definitely have my moments of being 'down'. After an exhibition for example, I can get into a big slump because for weeks I would have felt like I was running on adrenaline and then all of a sudden I am depleted. However I think this 'down' business can be completely normal as Manson talks about in his book. We can't be instagram worthy happy every moment of every day. We need to find the balance.

Whats your balance? What are your 2020 goals?

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year!
