Annual Etching Sale
It’s that time of year again (give or take) and it’s been pretty wild this week with Cyclone Alfred. Thankfully the cyclone was downgraded but we still received allot of strong winds and rain over the last few days. There was even flooding to some roads so we couldn't access some suburbs close to us. We spent a couple of days last week preparing the house, getting water, food and bringing everything in from the porch and garden. I ended up moving allot of my studio work/products into the living room just incase a window broke or there was a leak in the ceiling. I also had to cover all of my etchings in cellophane because I was paranoid that they would get wet! I’ve never felt so anxious and overwhelmed these past days because we had no idea what to expect. I am so protective of my little family and I’m also pregnant, we are expecting another baby in a few months. So I just didn’t want anything to happen to them or to me and that I couldn’t look after them. I thought about so many worst case scenarios and honestly we could have received a battering from the cyclone with damage and flooding. THANKFULLY we only got a small leak in the kitchen which was also a bit strange because we’ve had heavy storms not too dissimilar before and haven’t had any issues. But now I’ve made a claim with insurance to see what can be done and to find out the extent of the damage. I don’t think it’s really bad but it’s best to get on top of these things sooner rather than later.
In saying all of this, thankfully none of my etchings were damaged - including over thirty pieces that are included in this years annual etching sale! So, so glad they were ok because the last couple weeks I’ve been photographing all the work, measuring each piece and putting up the listings on the website. I was worried all of my hard work would be for nothing!!
As many of you know already, my annual etching sale is something I have been doing the last 4 years. It’s a great time to grab a bargain as all of these etchings are heavily discounted. Generally January is a quiet month with most small businesses, particularly the arts, I find it a perfect time to go through my studio and find the etchings that I want to move along and make space for new things. These etchings could be painted slightly differently, different plate tone or colouring, there may be slight paper creases or small imperfections. These pieces are still beautiful in their own right but don’t quite fit the editions I currently have. There are also quite a few new etchings that I’ve not shown before and are brand new/experiments. Sometimes it can take a while, maybe weeks or months to get colours right or for me to figure out how to make a composition work. It can be a lengthy process to when I feel like a work is ‘finished’.
An example of this is the ‘Passion Fruit Study’ below which has been sitting in a drawer in the studio for the last year unpainted and just looking a bit sad. I finally felt the energy to paint it and she’s come up really nicely! Purple is definitely not a colour I'm used to working with so it was out of my comfort zone! Another new etching is an arched shaped called ‘Eat Pray Love’ and is so new I only finished it a couple weeks ago! Such a great price too! Hoping this artwork will go into one of my next exhibitions. The only reason I am selling this edition at such a low price is because the colours weren't exactly what I wanted and I need to reprint it in the studio. Similarly, ‘Architect of Dreams’ was printed in a very sepia orange/brown tone and still looks beautiful but isn’t really the ink I wanted to achieve when I was printing it.
There are so many amazing etchings available in this sale at heavily discounted prices. They are all ONE OFF etchings so once it’s sold, it’s gone! You can click the photos and they will link you to the artwork for sale. PLEASE NOTE: If the link isn’t working it is probably because the artwork has sold. As they sell, I will remove the listings because I don’t want it to be confusing.
Alternatively, click the link below that says SALE ETCHINGS and it will take you to the sale page where you can see all the sale artworks. Happy shopping!
